POP!055 - Colin Clary - Twee Blues Vol.1

12" vinyl, Limited run of 300 copies, £10

This is Colin's most cohesive and awesome album to date. A 15-song cycle that is neither quite twee nor blues, but something in between. Recorded in one batch over a long weekend with a small crew, this record is a focused artistic statement full of songs that are easy to play and fun to sing.

POP!052 - Baffin Island - EP

3" cdr, Limited run of 160 copies, £3

Have you ever wondered what is exactly in between Boise (ID, USA) and Glasgow (UK)? It's Baffin Island!!!

I can't assure the geographical accuracy of this statement, but when it comes to music, there's something pretty special happening right in the middle of the two capitals, and that is the collaborative project between Jeremy Jensen and Jake Hite (of The Very Most, Boise) and Melanie Whittle, Chris Gillies and Jo Bunyan (of The Hermit Crabs, Glasgow).

Born with the idea of making a single song for a compilation, the project has been going for a couple of years now and we couldn't be happier to welcome them to the weePOP! family.

Das Klienicum,

POP!050 - The Just Joans - Buckfast Bottles in the rain

12" vinyl LP with free CD, Limited run of 500 copies, £10

If you squint your eyes a little, this could be considered the Just Joans first full-length album. The majority of the tracks here appeared in a different form on "Last Tango In Motherwell", a CD album released back in 2005 when the band was simply David and Chris. Now, completely reworked, some of those songs are back in this pop concept album set in late 90s Scotland.

The Rusty Blog,

POP!047 - The Smittens - Typing, Texting

7" vinyl, Limited run of 300 copies, £4

On their brand new single, The Smittens greet you with everything you've come to expect from the band; the infectious bubblegum pop, the harmonies, unique fun and instrumentation and the ability to make a cover song (in this case, Cars Can Be Blue's 'You're so cute') their own while still keeping everything that made the original so good.

Tracklist

  • 1. Typing, Texting
  • 2. You're so cute (Cars can be blue cover)
  • 3. Sometimes people get sad (demo)

POP!046 - Tigercats - Banned at the Troxy

7" vinyl, Limited run of 300 copies, £5

Picture Disc

Tigercats haven't been around for long, but have been causing quite a lot of noise (sometimes quite litteraly) from the very beginning. With members of Esiotrot and Hexicon, they formed in 2010, supported Dum Dum girls on their second ever show, and have already released two singles on Haircut Records.

‘Banned at the Troxy' is their first record with the fifth band member Laura Kovic, just arrived from Australia to play Casio VLtone and share vocal duties with songwriter Duncan Barrett, and find the band at their best ever form!

Tracklist

POP!045 - Let's Whisper - The Shortest Days

CD, Limited run of 500 copies, £8

The Shortest Days is the first full-length album for Let's Whisper and also for WeePOP! , but far from being the first time the band and label worked together. They were on our first pop-up compilation, released two EPs and came over to the UK to play shows several times.

Long time followers, will have seen Let's Whisper going from an acoustic duo to a 4 piece band, then a 5 piece to an acoustic duo all over again. Even though its core has always been Dana and Colin's heartfelt songwriting, they are always open to opportunities to let their songs find new ways to be heard and willing to take chances with fresh sounds.

The Shortest Days certainly reflects all that, finding the band in its best form, with more robust, fuller songs, but still incredibly personal and fragile at times.

Tracklist

  • 1. California girls
  • 2. All happy endings
  • 3. Evy and Sarah
  • 4. Heart on my mirror
  • 5. Jackpot
  • 6. Meet me on the dance floor

POP!043 - Lê Almeida - Mono Maçã

3" cdr, Limited run of 160 copies, £3

Lê Almeida makes short, punchy, fuzzy pop songs, filled with dirty guitar riffs and the kind of melodies that stick to your head for days. With a handful of singles and EPs released in the past four years, he is not afraid doing things in his own way – he records his own songs, sings in Portuguese, and still uses tape. The result is something pretty fantastic.

POP!039 - The 1959 Hat Co. - Awesome Sneakers

3" cdr, Limited run of 160 copies, £3

With members scattered around Detroit, Toledo, Seattle and Ohio (US), The 1959 Hat Co.'s roots and pop influences are just as broad, going from Brian Wilson and Phil Spector to Ennio Morricone, Colin Blunstone, Aztec Camera and The Jesus and Mary Chain. In just under 9 minutes, these three hazy summery pop songs will bring you a little bit of all of that and some more.

POP!037v - The Smittens / The Just Joans - SPLIT

7" vinyl, Limited run of 500 copies, £4

Both such quintessentially WeePOP! bands, The just joans and The Smittens represent two different sides of the atlantic and two aspects of the indiepop sound: The Smittens with their more uptempo handclaps, jangles and percussion, and the Just Joans showcasing a more uniquely british anarok styling and lineage. Long time admirers of each others work, they finally got to meet and play together at last years Indietracks festival. Friendships were made, plans were hatched, and the result is a joined release with them covering each other's songs as well as a single of their own.

POP!025 - The endless bummer - Donald fagen mix tape

3" cdr, Limited run of 160 copies, £3

The Endless Bummer produce brilliant freeform pop, surreal and dreamy songs combining elements of 50s doo-wop, lo-fi wheezy organs, percussive skiffle, and three person vocal harmonies with bubblegum lyrics thrown together with fragments of pop-cultural reference, first person narratives and tales of lost love.
